The Difference Between Cosmetic And Reconstructive Surgery

Plastic surgery continues to grow in popularity everyday. With its prevalent importance in the enhancing one’s physical appearance, many are turning towards plastic surgery for quick fix ups. Plastic surgery has two popular kinds: cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. The distinction between these two will be discussed in this particular post.

Cosmetic surgery is focused on aesthetic concerns of the patient. This is often referred to as elective surgery because it is not a necessity as there are no significant risks of not taking the surgery. Reconstructive surgery on the other hand, addresses damaged or malformed body features. They are performed to correct functional impairments like burns or facial bone fractures and breaks. This type of plastic surgery are performed to improve or to bring back to normal functioning a body feature.

Many cosmetic plastic surgery patients often undergo going under the knife due to self esteem and confidence issues. Studies have shown that most people would undergo such expensive and possible life threatening procedures because they have suffered body image problems in the past. Some may have endured teasing throughout their lives and felt that cosmetic surgery gives them a chance to have new beginnings in life.

Many people who have undergone cosmetic surgery feel that their overall life quality has improved following the surgery. This makes sense since a new improved physical appearance can have a significant boost to one’s self-confidence and self-esteem. Gone is the old you and in their place is a new person capable of anything.

Plastic surgery is not a fix all process that after the surgery everything is back to normal and you can just pretend that it never happened. There are still some repercussions that you need to do. In fact some after-effects will not be felt till a year after the procedure. Cosmetic surgery in general have shorter recovery periods compared reconstructive surgery. Someone who had a Toronto botox procedure done by qualified cosmetic surgeons would be fully recovered within 3 months as oppose to someone who had their tumor removed. These individuals for one have to change their diet and take extra steps to monitoring what they eat and physical exercise becomes even more crucial.

With the increased media attention on beauty and perfection, education training like botox training continues to rise. Some a necessity others not so much. Whatever the reason, remember that plastic surgery is not for everyone. Remember to consult a health professional.
